Vinyl Products

This is not your mother's floor.
Today's vinyl products do not only include the traditional sheet vinyl products, but now a homeowner has the choice to use a variety of products that offer trend setting styles and colors.

The design options are endless.
The latest technology used in manufacturing vinyl products offers a consumer the choice between sheet vinyl products and a luxury vinyl tile. This fast growing segment in flooring products simulates everything from stone to natural woods and even includes styles that simulate the look of carpet for anything but ordinary results.

Below you will find terms commonly used when describing vinyl flooring.
In-laid : describing a sheet vinyl that has the same color from surface to backing. Scratches and tears are less noticeable. Available in 6 foot widths only. Requires seam sealers in most installations.

Wear Layer : refers to the layer on the surface that contains the actual color and pattern of the product. Usually measured in mils. The thicker the wear layer, the longer the expected wear of the product.

No Wax : any vinyl product that does not require the consumer to apply an aftermarket wax layer for durability and wear.

Pattern Match : the extra product required to match up the design when seams are necessary during installation. Only needed in sheet vinyl products.

Seam Sealer : an adhesive product specifically designed to adhere to the surface of a seam where 2 pieces of sheet vinyl is installed side by side. This will help reduce the separation of the seam when the inherent nature of the vinyl is to shrink over time.

Linoleum : refers to a product made from linseed oil.

Hydrostatic Moisture : refers to a problem caused when a vinyl floor product is installed, usually below grade, and it seals off the concrete floor causing moisture levels in the concrete to build up under the vinyl instead of evaporating through the concrete.

VCT : an abbreviation for Vinyl Composition Tile. Usually used in commercial installations. VCT requires a wax to be applied to the surface to help eliminate scratching and staining.
